Go2College

Our signature Go2College after school and summer camp program helps middle school students (and their parents) prepare for high school success and college readiness and access. Go2College students complete college and career research projects, visit college campuses, meet college admissions counselors and students. They also learn about the courses they need to take in high school and what student attributes and accomplishments colleges admissions officers look for.

Students and their parents participate in free college preparation workshops to help them make a four year high school plan for college readiness. They go home equipped with college preparation and readiness kits.

In October, P4L will be launching Go2College as an after school program at Silver Spring International Middle School. Over the school year a total of thirty 7th and 8th grade students will engage in weekly college preparation workshops. Most of the students would be the first in their families to go to college. Their activities will include:

  1. Choosing a college to research and creating a promotional web site for the school
  2. Matching their interests and dreams to possible future careers
  3. Getting familiarized with college terminology and the preparation process in high school
  4. Learning about the wide array of college and university options for them in Maryland
  5. Visiting college campuses and talking with college students
  6. Participating with their parents in free college readiness dinner workshops
  7. Learning that there is a college for every student and college is possible for every student!
