Our Core Programs…

The Ruth Rales Comcast Kids Reading Network

We work directly with the Montgomery County Public School System to partner business and community volunteer reading tutors with more than 800 second graders at the 63 elementary schools.

Ruth Rales Reading Network and Montgomery County Schools

GRRL Tech

This is an innovative program to nurture the interest and skills of minority girls in the wonder and possibilities of science and technology. This year-round program provides dynamic hands-on learning in computer science, web development, and other technology areas, and includes scholarships to summer computer camps. It also taps the talents of female professionals from the local technology community. The program is designed around teams of 15 girls at two elementary schools and three middle schools.

Young Writers Academies

This is a creative partnership to encourage a passion for writing in students. Working with a remarkable set of language arts partners—-including the Writer’s Center in Bethesda, the Roundhouse Theatre Education Center, and DC Writers Corps—-this after school program makes writing come alive by providing a continuum of dynamic enrichment for academically at-risk students from low-income families. The program is designed around teams of 15 students at three elementary schools and two middle schools.

Other Volunteer Partnerships with Schools

We also work with targeted schools on a range of special programs, events, and projects to bolster the performance of at-risk students in reading, writing, math, science, and technology.

Supporting each of our programs is a passionate commitment to give parents the tools to support student success and become a highly-valued resource for schools and teachers in their efforts to make education come alive.
