Board of Directors Announce the Retirement of ED, Cynthia Rubenstein

Cynthia Rubenstein PhotoAfter 19 years of dedicated service, Cynthia Rubenstein, Executive Director of Passion For Learning, has announced her plan to retire on June 30, 2022. To ensure a smooth transition, the Board of Directors has established a transition task force and the process for recruiting a new Executive Director has been initiated.
Cynthia joined Passion For Learning (P4L) in February 2003 as the organization’s first Executive Director.  She has played a critical role in our success and growth. When Cynthia was hired as Executive Director, P4L provided a homework and computer skills club at a large Silver Spring apartment complex, and connected community and business volunteers with one MCPS elementary school. Under Cynthia’s leadership, P4L has grown to serve a multitude of MCPS schools and over 19 years has engaged more than 2300 students with STEM enrichment and early college awareness and readiness experiences. Her key accomplishments include:

  • Developing GRRL Tech in 2005, a program to help middle school girls advance their STEM talents, interests, and skills;
  • Developing the Go2College program in 2014 for middle schoolers to help them start early on the path to college;
  • Partnering with other nonprofit organizations on innovative afterschool and summer programming; and
  • Emphasizing the importance of MCPS teachers and older students as coaches and mentors in P4L’s out of school programs.

Cynthia is admired and respected by students, staff, school administrators, program alumni, donors, collaborators, and community partners. While we will miss having her in the role of Executive Director, we look forward to her continued support of P4L and our mission. Since 2004 P4L has addressed students’ “opportunity gaps” in the development of STEM interests and readiness-preparation for post-secondary education. We support youth who, due to low family income and other barriers, may receive less encouragement and fewer opportunities to see themselves as “belonging in STEM” and “belonging in college.”

Details about the Executive Director position can be found here.   Referrals are welcomed and individuals interested in applying are encouraged to submit their resume and cover letter by April 15, 2022 for priority consideration.

Passion For Learning’s Board of Directors express deep gratitude to Cynthia for her dedication and outstanding service to P4L, and the students and families we serve. We thank Cynthia for nearly two decades of service and commitment to Passion For Learning!
