GRRL Tech to NIH Science Intern

Tuesday, November 7, 2017

Pamela Aluvale, a GRRL Tech alumna and now a senior at Wheaton High School, emailed our Executive Director on October 2017. In the email, she wrote to thank P4L for the computer technology foundation skills she gained at GRRL Tech when she was a middle schooler at Sligo Middle School.

P4L Student PamelaPamela recently participated in a highly competitive and prestigious 6 week National Institute of Health (NIH) summer research internship and was coached and mentored by NIH post doctoral professionals. This special program had over 300 applicants and after a phone and in-person interview, Pamela was accepted into the program along with 10 other students who worked in the physiology Sickle Cell section at NIH. In Pamela’s email she said “I’ve been wanting to send you this email since April but wanted to go through the whole experience before reaching out. I'm sending this because I wouldn't have meant anything to NIH if I wasn't equipped with my computer skills on numerous applications. Your program played a huge part in my foundation in using the computer applications.

Again, thank you so much!! I know you’ve helped so many girls from your after school programs.”
